Olympian’s project under construction at Altus House, Leeds, for 752 beds of purpose built student accommodation is continuing with steady progress while observing the Government’s strict measures enforced as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As the measures were introduced, pressure mounted as supply chain issues followed in the wider market. However, working closely together Olympian, the RG Group, their subcontractors and all the consultants have worked very hard to ensure any impact was mitigated whilst not compromising their or other’s safety and wellbeing. The progression of the concrete frame on the 37 storey building continued unfettered except that fewer personnel were able to occupy the workface and were forced to walk up to 30 storeys, four times a day as the confined personnel lift transport was not usable. Additionally, with the external cladding, emanating from Eire, once it’s total lockdown was lifted ahead of the UK, this enabled the delivery and fitting of the PCC wall panels to continue whilst materials from the UK were still difficult to source.
Over more recent weeks, improved work practices have been implemented that going forward, should allow Altus House still to meet it’s original programme, utilising the most recent government advice and stringent H&S procedures, without compromising quality.
Altus House remains on schedule for a June 2021 handover despite the extenuating circumstances and significant challenges faced. All parties involved, from our funding partners IQ to our contractors on site, have worked in a constructive but commercial manner to allow the works to progress well during this period.
