A planning application was submitted to Bristol City Council on 13th July 2023 for the redevelopment of the 1970’s Premier Inn building at St James Barton roundabout. The proposed scheme will consist of two separate towers, one 18 storey, 132 unit Co-Living and one 28 storey tower with 442 student bedrooms. The scheme will deliver much needed student housing along with a unique residential offering within the Co-Living, 20% of which will be affordable.
Designed by RIBA Stirling Prize-winning Architect Hodder + Partners and working closely with Bristol City Council, both buildings will contain associated amenity spaces including gyms, lounges, communal kitchen and living areas, roof terraces, co-working space as well as 146 secure cycle spaces. Over 60% of the development area will be given back to public realm with a new public park included in the proposals as well as a central kiosk and walkways opened up to the bus station, one of Bristol’s main transport hubs. These plans to regenerate this site in one of Bristol’s most central locations have been welcomed by the Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees.
